Office of Undersecretary of Defense, Acquisition & Technology
NORAD/USSAPACECOM
Patent and Trademark Office (PTO)
US Customs Service (Treasury Department)
National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA)

In today's "faster, better, cheaper" government, achieving your mission means managing more than information. It means managing knowledge. DACOM helps you do it - e-Engineering your processes so that Intranets can reach beyond internal communications and purchasing applications to Web-enable everything from online benefits enrollment and training, to unprecedented opportunities for collaboration with other organizations in government, academia, industry, and the community.

Office of the Undersecretary of Defense, Acquisition and Technology
Information Technology Asset Visualization [ITAV] Worknet™ Solution
  • Integrated management of all network assets
DACOM developed a solution that enables Defense staff to view and interact with the information technology assets physically attached to networks - i.e. computers, servers, routers, peripherals, gateways, mainframes, etc. - through a standard web-browsers from any approved location including remote sites. This will also enable the customer to gain centralized access to disparate information sources. The ITAV WorkNet will eventually integrate processes that include procurement, inventory management, network management, help desk services, and disposal actions. All information available to this Worknet is managed through a smart KnowledgeCore™ that documents the life cycle of each IT asset.

NORAD/USSAPACECOM
North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD)/United States Space Command (USSPACECOM) Warfighting Support System (N/UWSS)
  • Achieved functional integration that produced an ROI of $28.85 million annually and $346.3 million over the N/UWSS 12 year span
  • Developed business case for $100 million in annual program funding
  • Helped N/UWSS achieve BM/C4I capabilities for current/future missions
DACOM provided business process reengineering support for the N/UWSS Future Planning Team in its initiative to identify and correct deficiencies of current Battle Management Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (BM/C4I) mission operations. DACOM developed and facilitated the process to identify current functions, information systems, and data management improvements to enable functional integration, interoperability, modularity, expanded flexibility, and demonstrate a significant Return on Investment (ROI) of $28.85 million annually/$346.3 million over the N/UWSS 12 year span.

DACOM developed the N/UWSS Functional Economic Analysis (business case) for implementing process improvements, legacy system migrations, data management development, information system migration and evolution strategy to a common data and information infrastructure for Cheyenne Mountain Complex (CMC). The DACOM-developed business case was the key component for the $100 million in annual funding for N/UWSS.

DACOM developed functional process alternatives for comparison with the current Cheyenne Mountain Complex (CMC) baseline, including a financial profile, assessment on performance measures and mission effectiveness for each alternative, and the current baseline using risk adjusted discounted cash flow (RADCF) analysis.

US Customs Service (Treasury Department)
Office of Information and Technology
  • Earlier corrective action
  • Improved project planning
  • Better delivery success
DACOM is helping to establish and institutionalize an organization-wide project tracking process for US Customs. The goal for this is to (1) help a large IT organization get a better handle on departmental activities, and (2) to begin moving them toward Level 2 of the SEI's Capability Maturity Model. To achieve these goals, DACOM has e-Engineered process and technology changes that improve the visibility of projects within the organization - allowing management to take corrective action early in the project. In addition to this new tracking process, DACOM has improved project plans and enabled US Customs Service teams to build experience. This is paying off in better delivery success, based both on the on-time delivery of key products and the customer assessment of the value of the product after implementation.

National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA)
  • Received the prestigious Federal Technology Leadership Award
DACOM has been providing critical enterprise data structures management for NIMA (and the former DMA) for over 4 years. We have instituted the processes involved in identifying, modeling, integrating and disseminating the business rules and data that make this agency so important in the DoD and intelligence communities. DACOM facilitated over 25 working groups to build the US Imagery and Geospatial Information Systems Conceptual Data Model (USIGS CDM). The project received the prestigious Federal Technology Leadership Award in 1996 and this enterprise data model currently describes over 1,200 data entities and 1,500 attributes. The model is published on a CD-ROM along with many other USIGS Architecture products and standards.

In addition, DACOM has worked closely with many of the large system developers at NIMA to ensure that their implementations meet the future needs of the imagery and geospatial producing and consuming communities.
